Interview with Eshe

Grab your hot cup of chocolate, colouring pencils or crayons – or even both – and let the colourful magic begin! Don’t forget your yummy bowl of toasted marshmallows too.

Hmm … obviously eating my favourite treat, riding my bicycle, Magical Pack One, but what makes me really, really happy are the times I spend with family and friends – especially while eating yummy, toasted marshmallows and drinking hot chocolate around the bonfire. I am also happiest when I am kind to others, and they are kind to me. It gives me a warm feeling in my tummy – it’s the best!

Red, yellow, pink, green, purple, orange and blue. Oh, how I love the colours of the rainbow – they make me feel cheerful. My favourite, though, is yellow.

I do indeed. Most of us have fears, and by admitting them, we grow stronger because we are then able to understand our feelings and can develop the courage to work towards overcoming them.

I want to share with you a fear which I have overcome. I was once scared of being peer pressured – I feared being left out or judged if I did not behave the way other children at school did or like the things they liked. To overcome this fear, I began to focus on what I was good at. This helped me to start feeling good about myself which built in me the confidence to set boundaries and say ‘no’ respectfully when I did not agree with others.

If you also have a similar fear, I encourage you to read the stories shared by Zawadi and Bakai in Magical Pack One, as these stories helped me to believe in myself so I could be myself with confidence.

I am looking forward to learning how to play the flute. I enjoy learning new things, and once I can play the flute well, I will set myself the goal of composing my own tunes. I love self-challenges!

Learning how to ride a bicycle. This was a challenge – the toughest – but I never gave up, even though I was told many a times that giraffes cannot ride a bicycle because our long legs and necks are not adapted for balancing on a bicycle. I did not give up - I kept on trying and practicing and voila! After the umpteenth time falling over, I was flying on my bike – with my helmet on, of course!

Absolutely!

Crunchy acacia tree leaves covered with hot caramel sauce – yummy!

Do you have a pen and paper at hand? If not, you might want to grab some because you will definitely want to try my scrumptious sundae recipe!

Now, follow along step by step, and you must not forget to add your favourite fruits because this is what makes the sundae even yummier!

INGREDIENTS

  • 2 or 3 scoops vanilla ice cream (or your favourite ice cream flavour)
  • 3 tablespoons chocolate sauce
  • 3 tablespoons caramel sauce (optional)
  • ¼ cup whipped cream
  • 2 ice cream wafers
  • ¼ cup chopped fruits (I add my favourite fruits chopped small— blueberries, strawberries, mangoes and peaches)
  • 1 maraschino cherry

Step 1: Pre chill a glass in the freezer (optional)

Step 2: Drizzle some chocolate sauce around the inside of the glass

Step 3: Add the chopped fruits

Step 4: Add a scoop of ice cream over the fruits

Step 5: Drizzle some chocolate sauce over the ice cream

Step 6: Add another scoop of ice cream

Step 7: Drizzle some chocolate sauce over the ice cream (you can repeat Steps 6 and 7 again, if you want)

Step 8: Fill a piping bag with whipped cream. Hold the bag at a slight angle and press firmly, pulling the bag up to make a cone shape on top of the ice cream

Step 9: Drizzle some chocolate sauce over the whipped cream

Step 10: Add the cherry on top and the wafers on either side

And you are done … Enjoy!

Fun Facts

The neck of a giraffe usually measures between 6 to 7 feet (1.8 to 2.1 meters) in length. Despite its length, a giraffe has seven neck bones, the same number as a human, but their bones are significantly larger and elongated compared to those of humans.

The African giraffe is the tallest land mammal. Adult males can grow as tall as 5.5 meters and females reach around 4.3 meters.

What do giraffes eat, what is their favourite food, and how much do they eat in a single day?
Giraffes are herbivores (plant eating animals). They mainly eat leaves, buds, and twigs from various trees. Giraffes have a fondness for acacia trees and can eat up to 45 kilograms of leaves and twigs in a day.

No, giraffes actually sleep very little. A giraffe needs only about 5 to 30 minutes of sleep within a 24-hour period, and they often sleep while standing.
